WHY IS THE PEACE SUMMIT IN SWITZERLAND CONTROVERSIAL?
The Global Peace Summit in Switzerland, 15-16 June, once again reveals a geopolitical divide. In early June, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that 107 countries and international organizations had agreed to participate in the Summit, which he initiated in an effort to determine how to achieve peace in Ukraine. However, at the beginning of the week, it turned out that the number of participants had dropped to 93 countries and organizations, and in the middle of the week the number lowered to 78 participants. Some European diplomats anonymously communicated varying opinions on the number of countries with RFE/RL. One of them was quite optimistic that Switzerland would see "a family photo of almost 80 people." Another diplomat hoped that the number of confirmed participants would increase since there is still time. Why is this attempt to establish peace in Ukraine sabotaged by some parties, and what can we expect from the Swiss Peace Summit?
